LEBANESE GOVERNMENT APPROVES MILITARY PROGRAM TO CURB MILITIA WEAPONS

The Lebanese government has endorsed a military initiative aimed at restricting the proliferation of unauthorized arms within the country. Prime Minister Navaf Salam announced that the Council of Ministers has backed efforts to implement this program, which is set to proceed under guidelines established earlier this year.

As part of the new measures, the army command will be required to provide monthly progress reports on the initiative’s implementation. This step is intended to ensure transparency and oversight as the plan moves forward.

The decision is widely seen as part of broader efforts to rein in armed groups operating outside state control, including Hezbollah. The move signals a renewed push by state institutions to assert authority over security matters.
