A coalition of 37 member states from the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe has expressed serious apprehension regarding recent political developments in Georgia. The collective statement highlights growing concerns about the deterioration of human rights protections in the country.
The declaration received endorsement from numerous nations including Britain, Albania, Austria, Canada, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Ireland, Italy, Latvia, Liechtenstein, Malta, Moldova, the Netherlands, North Macedonia, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Ukraine, and Lithuania.
According to the communication directed to the OSCE leadership, the organization’s election monitoring division will be unable to observe the upcoming October 4 electoral process. The statement further references increasing pressure on individuals and groups critical of government policies, signaling a troubling pattern of restrictions on political dissent.
