Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei has declared that the country will maintain its uranium enrichment activities, while asserting that the pursuit of nuclear weapons is not part of its agenda. In a televised address, the leader emphasized national unity and addressed ongoing tensions with Western nations regarding the nuclear program.
Khamenei opened his remarks by focusing on the cohesion of the Iranian people and the challenges posed by external adversaries. He referenced a recent 12-day conflict initiated by hostile forces, which he said aimed to destabilize Iran’s political system. According to the leader, the nation has remained unified in the face of such threats, preserving its social and political integrity.
On the issue of uranium enrichment, Khamenei acknowledged disagreements with Western countries but defended the program as essential for civilian applications. He highlighted its role in agriculture, industry, environmental protection, and energy production, describing it as a cornerstone of the country’s technological advancement.
The Supreme Leader confirmed that Iran possesses the capability to produce highly enriched uranium but insisted that nuclear weapons development is not being pursued. He also stated that past attacks on nuclear facilities have not hindered progress, noting that expertise in uranium enrichment is now firmly established within the country, supported by a large number of specialized scientists and engineers.
