SERGIO BUSQUETS ANNOUNCES RETIREMENT AFTER STORIED CAREER

Former teammate and current Como manager Cesc Fabregas has paid tribute to Sergio Busquets following the legendary midfielder’s decision to retire from professional football at the conclusion of the current MLS season.

Fabregas described Busquets as both a close friend and an exceptional footballer whose contributions often went underappreciated until he was absent from the pitch. “He’s the type of player you truly miss when he’s not there,” Fabregas noted, adding that while it’s time to make way for younger talent, Busquets leaves behind an extraordinary legacy.

The Spanish international, who turns 38 this year, will conclude his remarkable career with Inter Miami, where he has played since 2023 after spending his entire European career with Barcelona. During his tenure with the Catalan giants, Busquets made 829 appearances across all competitions, registering 19 goals and 62 assists.

His trophy cabinet includes three Champions League titles, three La Liga championships, three FIFA Club World Cups, and seven Spanish Cup victories. On the international stage, Busquets earned 143 caps for Spain, contributing to their 2010 World Cup triumph and 2012 European Championship victory.

Fabregas also revealed that Busquets intends to transition into coaching following his retirement, wishing him success in this new chapter of his football career.
