ARMENIAN LAWMAKER FILES DEFAMATION SUIT AGAINST POLITICAL RIVAL

A member of Armenia’s parliamentary opposition has initiated legal proceedings against a fellow legislator from the ruling faction, court records show.

The lawsuit, registered in the Yerevan court system, centers on allegations of defamation through video statements. The plaintiff is seeking both a public apology and significant financial compensation totaling nine million Armenian drams.

Court documents indicate that three million drams of the requested amount represent compensation for non-material damages allegedly suffered due to the statements in question.

The case has been assigned to a judge of the Yerevan Civil Court, with proceedings expected to move forward in accordance with standard judicial timelines for such matters.

The legal action highlights ongoing political tensions within the National Assembly, where verbal confrontations between opposing factions have occasionally escalated into formal legal disputes.
