ARMENIA AND CYPRUS VOW TO STRENGTHEN BILATERAL TIES DURING INDEPENDENCE CELEBRATION

YEREVAN – The Speaker of the National Assembly of Armenia attended an official reception marking the 65th anniversary of Cyprus’s independence, delivering a speech that underscored the robust and deepening partnership between the two nations.

In his address, the Speaker extended warm congratulations to Cyprus, expressing hopes for continued peace and prosperity for its people. He praised the nation’s sovereignty and the determination of the Cypriot people in safeguarding their freedom and democratic values.

The relationship between Armenia and Cyprus was described as historically significant, with both countries having successfully cultivated strong interstate relations over recent decades. A high-level political dialogue is currently ongoing, covering a wide range of bilateral issues.

This partnership has been reinforced through a series of reciprocal high-level visits, mutual support in international forums, and sustained political and economic engagement. Cyprus has consistently stood by Armenia during challenging periods, demonstrating steadfast support for the Armenian people.

The coming year is set to be pivotal for cooperation. Cyprus will assume the presidency of the Council of the EU, while Armenia will host the 8th summit of the European Political Community in early May. Officials emphasized the need for close collaboration to advance shared objectives.

A key development highlighted was the recent opening of resident embassies in both countries, a move expected to unlock new opportunities in sectors such as the economy, high technology, tourism, and education.

Inter-parliamentary cooperation was also noted as being particularly dynamic, evidenced by recent visits and active work between parliamentary committees. Effective collaboration has also been maintained within the framework of various international parliamentary assemblies.

The important role of the Armenian community in Cyprus was acknowledged for its contribution to fostering friendship between the two peoples.

Concluding his remarks, the Speaker reaffirmed a strong commitment to enhancing joint cooperation on pressing bilateral and regional matters, expressing confidence that the two nations will continue to build a shared future.
