From his prison cell, Archbishop Bagrat Galstanyan has issued a defiant message that was delivered to the National Assembly today. The letter, presented by opposition MP Garnik Danielyan, contains strong accusations against state institutions and expresses unwavering commitment to his cause.
The religious leader declared himself “freer than ever,” stating that his imprisonment stems from a struggle for truth that ultimately liberates. He quoted biblical passages to emphasize that neither detention nor threats could shake his faith or political convictions.
The archbishop directed pointed questions to several government bodies, demanding answers within four days. He challenged the Prosecutor General and Head of the Investigative Committee to explain what he called contradictory narratives about recent events, including the circumstances surrounding fifteen detentions and an alleged bus burning incident.
In a separate challenge to the Foreign Ministry, Galstanyan demanded clarification about rumors of a “Russian trace” in his case, insisting officials must state definitively whether such claims exist.
The letter concludes with a declaration that “spiritual Armenia” will ultimately triumph over what he described as “false realities.” Quoting scripture, he predicted that despite facing powerful opponents, victory would come because “God is with us.” His final words celebrated Armenia with references to Mount Ararat, Holy Etchmiadzin, Artsakh, and the nation’s martyrs.
