The mayor of Armenia’s second-largest city has declared his intention to file a lawsuit against the national government over what he describes as severe budget allocation disparities.
In an unprecedented move, the municipal leader stated that legal proceedings will be initiated in the coming days, marking what would be the first such case by a mayor since the country gained independence.
According to the official, the central government collects approximately 58 billion drams in revenue from the city but returns only 4 billion drams in funding. He claims the city should receive nearly seven times more than its current allocation, asserting that the budgetary shortfall has reached critical levels that necessitate legal intervention.
The mayor emphasized that the substantial gap between revenue generation and funding return has created unsustainable financial conditions for municipal operations and public services.
