A member of parliament from Nagorno-Karabakh has had his pretrial detention extended by three months while facing terrorism-related charges, during a court hearing where he strongly denied the accusations against him.
Davit Galstyan told the court that despite participating in numerous public demonstrations, he had never faced administrative penalties during his tenure. The legislator specifically addressed allegations concerning explosives, stating that his family had not celebrated holidays since 2020 due to a missing relative.
“If lighters are now considered tools for organizing terrorist attacks, then perhaps the accuser and the accused should swap places,” Galstyan remarked during the proceedings.
The court ultimately ruled to keep the parliamentarian in custody as the investigation continues.
