FORMER GEORGIAN DEFENSE MINISTER DETAINED ON CORRUPTION CHARGES

A former Georgian defense minister has been placed in pre-trial detention following allegations of serious misconduct during his tenure. Juanser Burcoladze, who served as defense minister from 2021 to 2024, faces charges including abuse of official authority, embezzlement of state funds, corruption, and illegal enrichment.

The court has ordered the former official to remain in custody for two months while the investigation continues. Burcoladze, who previously represented the ruling Georgian Dream party, has denied all accusations against him.

The case represents one of the highest-profile corruption investigations involving a former government official in recent years. Legal proceedings are expected to continue as authorities gather additional evidence related to the allegations.
