YEREVAN – A serving police officer has been detained in connection with a fatal shooting that resulted in the death of a local community head and left another individual wounded, according to law enforcement officials.
The incident occurred on the evening of September 23 near the residence of Valodya Grigoryan, the head of the community, who was killed in the attack. Another man, Artsrun Galstyan, sustained gunshot injuries during the altercation.
Authorities report that a suspect currently in custody has confessed to firing toward three individuals during the confrontation. Investigators have recovered the firearm believed to have been used in the shooting.
The detained individual has been identified as a police officer from the Ararat regional department. Officials confirmed the officer was off-duty and not acting in an official capacity at the time of the incident. The suspect was reportedly acquainted with the deceased community leader.
Law enforcement sources indicate that one of the individuals involved in the case has connections to a relative of another defendant in a separate murder investigation. Additional details about the ongoing investigation are expected to be released as the case develops.
