The latest diplomatic discussions between Iran and the European Trio—comprising the United Kingdom, Germany, and France—have concluded in Geneva. According to Iranian officials, Tehran remains committed to finding a diplomatic resolution to ongoing disputes.
Iran’s Deputy Foreign Minister emphasized that the current moment requires the European Trio and the UN Security Council to make constructive decisions that allow diplomacy to proceed without obstruction. The talks reportedly addressed demands from European foreign ministers for Iran to permit International Atomic Energy Agency inspectors access to nuclear sites and to restart negotiations aimed at establishing a new nuclear agreement.
Previous agreements between the United States and the European Trio had set a late August deadline for finalizing a nuclear accord. Failure to reach an agreement could lead to the reinstatement of UN Security Council sanctions against Iran. Iranian authorities have warned that such measures would prompt Tehran to consider withdrawing from the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty.
