The Israeli ambassador to Azerbaijan has stated that recent military actions against Iran were a necessary response to long-standing threats from Tehran. The diplomat emphasized that Israel was left with no alternative but to defend its sovereignty against what he described as persistent calls for its destruction emanating from Iranian leadership.
According to the ambassador, Iran’s continuous threats, including military displays featuring anti-Israel slogans and countdown clocks targeting the Jewish state, created an untenable security situation. He asserted that Israel could no longer ignore these provocations and had to take decisive action to neutralize the threat.
The envoy expressed hope that recent events would serve as a deterrent, but warned that Israel remains prepared to respond forcefully if Iranian-backed aggression continues. He specifically mentioned militant groups including Hezbollah and Hamas as proxies acting under Iranian direction, noting recent attacks from Yemen-based Houthi forces that required Israeli retaliation.
“These groups operate with Iranian support and technology they couldn’t develop independently,” the ambassador stated. “As long as these threats to Israeli security persist, we will continue to take necessary defensive measures.”
The diplomat stressed that Israel seeks peaceful coexistence and has no aggressive intentions toward other nations. “Our actions are purely defensive in nature,” he said. “We desire only to live in peace and security, but we will not hesitate to protect our citizens when threatened.”
The ambassador’s comments come amid ongoing regional tensions and reflect Israel’s position that it will maintain its security posture against what it perceives as Iranian-backed threats to its existence.
