FRANCE REJECTS ISRAELI ACCUSATIONS OVER PALESTINIAN STATE RECOGNITION

French President Emmanuel Macron has issued a firm response to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s recent criticisms, dismissing claims that France’s diplomatic efforts are fueling anti-Semitism. The French leader emphasized that the fight against anti-Semitism must not be weaponized for political purposes.

In a written statement, Macron rejected allegations of inaction from Israeli officials, calling such accusations “unacceptable and insulting” to France. He stressed that the relationship between France and Israel should not be compromised by political disagreements.

The diplomatic tension escalated following France’s announcement that it would formally recognize Palestinian statehood during the upcoming United Nations session in September. This move has drawn strong opposition from the Israeli government, which views it as encouraging anti-Semitic sentiment.

Netanyahu had previously written to Macron, asserting that the French position on Palestinian statehood was “adding fuel to the fire of anti-Semitism” and characterized it as appeasement rather than genuine diplomacy.

Macron countered by urging an end to what he described as the “bloody and illegal stalemate” in Gaza, warning that the ongoing conflict is damaging Israel’s international standing and creating humanitarian suffering. The French president maintained that his government’s position is consistent with international law and efforts toward peaceful resolution in the region.

The exchange highlights growing international pressure on Israel regarding its military operations in Gaza, where the conflict has exacerbated humanitarian conditions and complicated efforts to secure the release of remaining hostages.
