Iran has formally denounced a recent move by three European nations concerning its nuclear program. The country’s Foreign Ministry issued a strong statement on Thursday dismissing what it termed an “illegal” action by France, Germany, and the United Kingdom.
The diplomatic confrontation centers on the European countries’ invocation of a dispute resolution mechanism related to the 2015 nuclear agreement. Iranian officials maintain that the European action violates established procedures and lacks legal standing.
According to the Iranian position, the three nations have overstepped their authority by attempting to activate what they describe as an “immediate response mechanism.” Tehran insists this move contradicts both the terms of the nuclear agreement and United Nations Security Council Resolution 2231, which endorsed the original deal.
The Foreign Ministry further warned that such actions could harm Iran’s cooperation with international nuclear monitoring organizations and undermine the credibility of UN Security Council processes. The statement characterized the European position as having no legal validity.
The development comes amid ongoing tensions over Iran’s nuclear activities, with Western powers expressing concern about Tehran’s compliance with the terms of the 2015 agreement. Iranian authorities maintain that their nuclear program remains peaceful and within the bounds of international agreements.
