YEREVAN – Armenia’s top diplomat has called on Azerbaijan to issue a definitive, high-level statement in favor of peace, arguing such a step is crucial to prevent the perpetuation of mutual fears and hostility between the two nations.
Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan stated that as the peace process advances, resolving the issue of detainees becomes more straightforward. He confirmed that Yerevan has proposed the dissolution of the OSCE Minsk Group, a format long associated with the Nagorno-Karabakh mediation process.
Mirzoyan explained that both Armenia and Azerbaijan share the view that these structures can be disbanded, as they were established to manage a conflict that has now officially concluded, with the two countries having entered a post-war phase.
On the matter of regional transport routes, the Foreign Minister clarified that Armenia will retain full control and security responsibilities over the sections passing through its sovereign territory, dismissing suggestions of external management over its infrastructure.
