ARMENIAN OPPOSITION LEADER CRITICIZES PRIME MINISTER’S UN REMARKS ON PEACE PROCESS

YEREVAN – A senior member of the Republican Party of Armenia has strongly criticized Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan’s recent address at the United Nations, describing it as contradictory and lacking substance.

In a social media post, the opposition figure argued that the Prime Minister’s speech failed to address critical national concerns, including the release of Armenian detainees held in Azerbaijan and the status of sovereign territories. While Pashinyan emphasized a commitment to peace, he simultaneously acknowledged that the process continues to encounter unresolved issues, raising questions about the viability of the current diplomatic approach.

The critique highlighted that Azerbaijani leadership continues to publicly reference the “Zangezur corridor,” a term Yerevan has repeatedly rejected. This, according to the opposition, undermines the premise of a genuine peace dialogue.

The statement further questioned the Prime Minister’s apparent surprise at statements made by his Azerbaijani counterpart, noting that Armenia has chosen to engage in direct bilateral talks without third-party mediation. This shift in diplomatic strategy, the critic argued, makes such expressions of grievance inconsistent.

The post concluded by characterizing the UN speech as a failure to defend national interests, accompanied by a historical quotation underscoring the value of sovereignty.
