YEREVAN – A war veteran, who was recently taken into custody, has been hospitalized after his health deteriorated significantly. According to his legal representative, the individual required emergency medical attention.
The lawyer stated that her client, who suffers from severe disabilities and chronic heart conditions stemming from his military service, experienced acute chest pains following an altercation. He has a documented history of multiple heart attacks, strokes, and several cardiac stent procedures.
The defense has challenged the official account of the incident, asserting that no video evidence corroborates claims that the veteran assaulted any officials. The lawyer clarified that her client was merely expressing indignation during a protest and has provided a full testimony. She criticized the authorities for applying charges of hooliganism to what she described as minor physical contact during the encounter, also denying allegations that any objects were thrown by her client.
The veteran was arrested alongside another individual after a group of relatives of soldiers missing from the 2020 conflict attempted to secure a meeting with defense officials. Prior to the arrests, the families had received information suggesting that detention orders were being prepared.
