The European Union has approved significant new funding to bolster Ukraine’s cultural sector as the country continues its recovery from war. Four major initiatives have been selected for support through the EU’s Creative Europe program, with contracts formally signed this week.
The supported projects include Zmina Resilience, which provides assistance to Ukrainian artists and cultural organizations; Culture HELPS SOLIDARITY, focused on cultural solidarity efforts; Cultural Horizons, dedicated to promoting access to cultural heritage; and UAXEU, which will work on post-war restoration of Ukraine’s creative industries.
Total funding for these cultural initiatives now stands at €7 million, representing a substantial increase from earlier commitments. The additional €2 million was secured following an international reconstruction conference held in Rome this past July, reflecting growing international support for Ukraine’s cultural preservation.
The Creative Europe program represents the European Union’s flagship cultural initiative, designed to foster artistic development while strengthening the economic viability of creative sectors. The program emphasizes cultural diversity, linguistic variety, and the protection of Europe’s shared cultural heritage.
This latest investment comes as Ukraine works to rebuild not just physical infrastructure but also the cultural fabric damaged by ongoing conflict, recognizing the vital role arts and culture play in national resilience and recovery.
