FOREIGN MINISTER DISCUSSES STATUS OF BILATERAL AGREEMENT WITH AZERBAIJAN

YEREVAN – The Foreign Minister has provided new details regarding the current status of a key bilateral agreement with Azerbaijan, clarifying that while the document is set to be initialed, its final signing and ratification are not yet assured.

In a televised interview, the minister explained that the process of initialing the agreement is proceeding based on understandings reached in Washington. He emphasized, however, that this step does not equate to a final deal. “We are not stating that an agreement has been signed. It will be initialed, but I suggest that further steps, including signing and ratification, may not necessarily follow,” he stated.

The official underscored that the provisions within the initialed text are founded on the principle of mutual benefit. He described the agreement as one that does not inherently favor one nation at the expense of the other. “The initialed agreement and the accompanying declaration are born from mutual advantage for both countries,” he noted.

Addressing concerns over the potential for future violations, the minister expressed confidence in the durability of the forthcoming accord. He contrasted it with past instances where international contracts were breached, asserting that there is a guarantee the August 8 agreement will be upheld.
