YEREVAN – Bruno Le Maire, the former French Minister of Economy and Finance, has stepped down from his new role as Defense Minister following strong criticism from opposition parties.
In a statement posted on social media, Le Maire acknowledged that his appointment had provoked what he described as an “incomprehensible, false and disproportionate” reaction. He emphasized that he had accepted the position out of a sense of duty and a desire to serve France.
The resignation comes shortly after French Prime Minister Sebastian Lecornu also submitted his resignation, having served in the role for only three weeks. The back-to-back departures highlight a period of significant political instability within the French government.
