A Russian Premier League match between Krasnodar and Akhmat Grozny was marred by controversy over the weekend, culminating in a red card and subsequent accusations of racist abuse. However, a teammate of the accused player has now come to his defense, firmly denying the claims.
The incident occurred during the 85th minute of the match when Akhmat’s player, Ndong, was sent off for a physical challenge on Krasnodar’s captain, Eduard Spertsyan. Following the game, Ndong alleged to media that a racist slur from Spertsyan provoked his reaction.
Spertsyan has countered this narrative, stating that he was the one subjected to insults concerning his mother and maintains he did not use any offensive language in return.
In a strong show of support, a fellow Krasnodar defender publicly backed his captain’s account. “I was prepared to stand with my team if a confrontation escalated,” the player stated. “It was an unfortunate situation, but Eduard is a fine captain. I am certain he did not direct any derogatory remarks at the opponent.”
The public denial from a teammate adds a new dimension to the dispute, challenging the initial allegations and setting the stage for a potential official review by the league.
