A Russian citizen has been taken into custody on accusations of involvement in a terrorist organization and of preparing an assassination attempt against a well-known television presenter.
According to a statement released by the individual on a social media platform, the suspect, a 37-year-old resident of Dimitrovgrad, was allegedly recruited by Ukrainian intelligence services. The investigation claims that from April 2024 until his arrest in June 2025, the man made multiple trips to Moscow to gather information on the public figure’s routines and travel routes.
Upon returning to his home region of Ulyanovsk, he is further accused of collecting data on the locations of local defense industry facilities. Law enforcement officials assert these actions were carried out to further the objectives of a terrorist organization.
A criminal case has been initiated by the regional investigative department under charges of participating in a terrorist organization, an offense that carries a potential prison sentence of ten to twenty years. The court has sanctioned the suspect’s arrest.
This is not the first time an alleged plot against the same media personality has been reported. In the spring of 2022, Russian security services claimed to have thwarted a similar assassination attempt, which they also attributed to directives from Ukraine. Ukrainian authorities have previously dismissed such allegations as fabrications, denying any plans to target Russian television personalities.
