YEREVAN – The Nepalese army has been mobilized to assist law enforcement in response to widespread civil unrest that has resulted in a significant number of casualties. The deployment was initiated to curb extensive acts of looting and vandalism reported across the country.
The situation intensified dramatically when protesters targeted the official residence of President Ram Chandra Paudel in the capital, Kathmandu. While the president was safely evacuated, conflicting reports regarding his political status have since emerged.
Official figures now indicate that at least 22 individuals have lost their lives during the anti-government demonstrations, with hundreds more sustaining injuries.
The current crisis was triggered by a government decision to block access to two dozen social media platforms for failing to comply with national registration laws. Although the ban was subsequently lifted, the political fallout proved irreversible, ultimately leading to the resignation of the nation’s prime minister. Public demonstrations have continued despite these governmental concessions.
