A senior opposition figure has presented a comprehensive peace plan while leveling significant criticism against the current administration’s diplomatic strategy. Levon Zurabyan, deputy chairman of the Armenian National Congress, articulated his vision for regional stability through social media channels.
The political leader identified three fundamental concerns with the government’s current peace initiative. First, he noted the absence of a formal peace agreement, pointing to Azerbaijan’s continued refusal to sign documents despite what he characterized as substantial Armenian concessions. He further highlighted ongoing border closures with Turkey and reported mistreatment of Armenian detainees in Azerbaijani custody.
Second, Zurabyan raised geopolitical objections, arguing that recent diplomatic agreements fail to incorporate the interests of major global powers like China and India. He suggested this unilateral approach could destabilize regional security and potentially reignite conflict.
Third, the opposition leader expressed concerns about national identity, asserting that current negotiations threaten core components of Armenian statehood. He warned against removing historical elements from state symbols and compromising national sovereignty under external pressure.
As an alternative, Zurabyan proposed establishing an international transportation hub in the Zangezur region through a consortium involving major geopolitical players. This initiative would include railway, highway, and fiber optic infrastructure development.
The proposed plan claims several advantages: rebalancing regional dynamics to encourage Azerbaijan toward genuine peace negotiations, transforming Armenia from a conflict zone to a cooperation area, breaking economic isolation to foster rapid development, and preserving national identity without humiliating concessions.
The opposition framework positions itself as what supporters describe as the only viable path to sustainable peace, contrasting sharply with what they characterize as election-oriented diplomatic maneuvers by the current administration.
