A prominent political commentator has issued a sharp rebuttal to the suggestion that Armenians should visit Shushi as tourists. In a social media post, he stated that the very concept of touring one’s homeland is fundamentally unacceptable to him.
The analyst reflected that even in his youth, he could not comprehend the idea of traveling to historic Western Armenian lands like Van or Kars as a sightseer. While acknowledging that many compatriots undertake such journeys as pilgrimages, he maintained that his personal conviction is so strong that he cannot visit these regions even in that capacity.
Consequently, he firmly rejected the head of state’s recent proposal to consider Shushi a tourist destination. He declared his intention to return to the city, not as a visitor, but as an owner, just as he had five years ago.
He outlined that the path to achieving this goal would be through long and arduous effort. While uncertain of the ultimate timeline for reaching Shushi, he announced a specific starting point for the journey: a public march commencing from “Azatutyun” square on September 2 at 6:30 p.m.
Expressing confidence, he predicted that tens of thousands would join this symbolic march toward Shushi.
