RUSSIAN BILLIONAIRE FACES MURDER CHARGES IN HIGH-PROFILE CASE

A Moscow court has formally charged prominent billionaire Ibrahim Suleymanov with murder, according to official reports. The Basmanny Court is handling the case under Article 105 of Russia’s Criminal Code, which carries a potential prison sentence of up to 15 years for murder convictions without aggravating circumstances.

Law enforcement authorities took Suleymanov into custody on October 3 in connection with a homicide that occurred in previous years. The arrest operation involved coordinated efforts between the Ministry of Internal Affairs and the Federal Security Service (FSB), with the Investigation Committee’s central apparatus leading the ongoing investigation.

This is not the businessman’s first encounter with serious legal troubles. Previous court records indicate Suleymanov received a conviction for fraud and money laundering amounting to $4.5 million. He had served approximately 10.5 years of that sentence before being granted parole in 2015.

Recent corporate filings from 2024 show Suleymanov and his brother Rasseh listed as beneficiaries of “Sirena-Travel,” a significant IT firm specializing in aviation industry automation. The company’s services extend to airline ticket systems and comprehensive airport business process management, with additional partnerships spanning tour operations, railway services, bus companies, and insurance providers.
