SYRIAN PRESIDENT TO ADDRESS UN GENERAL ASSEMBLY AFTER NEARLY SIX DECADES

Syrian President Ahmed Al-Sharaa has departed for the United States to attend the 80th session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York. This marks the first visit by a Syrian head of state to American soil in nearly sixty years.

The Syrian leader’s participation comes following his rise to power last December, when his coalition government succeeded the administration of long-term president Bashar al-Assad. The current president’s upcoming appearance at the international forum represents a significant diplomatic moment, as no Syrian leader has traveled to the United States for UN proceedings since Nureddin Al-Atasi’s address in 1967.

The General Assembly session provides a platform for world leaders to discuss global issues and present their national perspectives on the international stage. President Al-Sharaa’s scheduled participation signals Syria’s renewed engagement with the international community through established diplomatic channels.
