Thirteen individuals have been formally charged in connection with an attempt to breach the Georgian Presidential Palace in Tbilisi earlier this month. The group faces significant prison terms for their alleged roles in the incident.
Prosecutors announced that the detainees have been charged with attempting to capture a strategic facility and participating in group violence. According to official statements, the charges carry potential sentences ranging from two to four years for the attempted capture, and six to nine years for involvement in group violence.
The incident occurred when demonstrators broke through security barriers into the courtyard of the presidential residence. Security forces responded with tear gas and water cannons to disperse the crowd. Additional special forces units were deployed to secure the area during the confrontation.
Court proceedings have already resulted in the detention of five opposition figures accused of inciting the attack. The investigation into the events continues as authorities examine the full scope of the incident.
