UKRAINE CUTS DIPLOMATIC TIES WITH NICARAGUA OVER RECOGNITION OF OCCUPIED TERRITORIES

Ukraine has formally terminated diplomatic relations with Nicaragua, the country’s foreign ministry announced on Wednesday. The move comes in response to Nicaragua’s decision to recognize Russian sovereignty over several regions of Ukraine currently under occupation.

In an official statement, Ukrainian authorities condemned the Nicaraguan government’s actions as a direct violation of international law and the United Nations Charter. The statement emphasized that Nicaragua’s position effectively supports Russia’s military aggression and attempts to legitimize the seizure of Ukrainian territory.

The diplomatic break follows Nicaragua’s recent opening of an honorary consulate in Crimea, which Ukraine views as participation in efforts to undermine its territorial integrity. Ukrainian officials stressed that such recognition of occupied territories carries no legal weight and does not alter Ukraine’s internationally recognized borders.

Ukraine remains committed to defending its sovereignty and will continue to respond decisively to any actions that threaten its territorial integrity, according to the foreign ministry. The complete severance of diplomatic relations marks the latest development in the ongoing international response to Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.
